Rochester N.Y.- A man who spent years in prison for a murder he did not commit may be getting more than $7 million in a settlement with Monroe County.

Frank Sterling sued the county for his arrest and conviction in the 1988 murder of 74-year-old Viola Manville of Hilton. She was killed by Mark Christie. The same man who kidnapped and killed Kali Ann Poulton.

He was exonerated by DNA evidence in 2010. Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks has asked county legislators to approve $7.5 million to settle the lawsuit.

The money she say will come from the risk management fund and will not affect the county’s budget.
