A Florida man is now accused of intentionally running down a state trooper on interstate 81 near Binghamton, resulting in his death.
Trooper Christopher Skinner was killed instantly when he was hit by a pickup truck during a traffic stop of another driver.
At a news conference, State Police Superintendent Joseph D'Amico said the pickup driver, identified as Almond Upton (pictured below), deliberately changed lanes when he saw the trooper on the side of the road ahead and struck him.
Olney then continued a short way before pulling over and running into the woods where he was tracked down by police. He's been charged with first degree murder.
Superintendent D'Amico says prior to running down the trooper, Upton deliberately sideswiped a couple of cars and injured one of the drivers.
Trooper Skinner was a 13 year veteran of the force and is survived by his fiancee and two children.
