The Yates County Sheriff's Office says a couple of neighbors who live along Keuka Lake not only called 911 to report a couple in trouble out on the water -- they also went out and rescued them.
Deputies say Kimberly Hanson and Edward Bently of the Buffalo area were out in a canoe when it turned turtle in the middle of the lake. Hanson gave Bently her life jacket and set out to swim for shore to get help. After a two-hour pull she became exhausted and began to yell for help.
Two lakeshore residents heard the calls for help, called 911, then took a boat out and got Hanson out of the water. They searched for and found the capsized canoe and rescued Bently as well. Both were treated by Emergency Medical personnel back on shore.
