Avon N.Y.- A Livingston County mother and grandfather have been charged after a 3 year old child is found wandering.

Sheriff's deputies say the boy was found Saturday night walking around Garden Street in the Town of Lima. After an hour of searching, deputies say they came upon 53 year old Melvin Hotchkiss Jr. of Avon who at first gave them a false name fearing he had an arrest warrant out for him. He turned out to be the child's grandfather.

The little boys mother, 28 year old Helen Hotchkiss also of Avon, said she had put the boy to sleep in a tent and that he must of wandered off. She had never reported him missing.

She and her father are charged with endangering the welfare of a child. Hotchkiss is also charged with criminal impersonation.

The child has been turned over to his father.
