A pilot escaped without injury after a crash landing last night in an Ontario County cornfield.
The Ontario County Sheriff's Office says the 1940-vintage Taylor Craft flown by a Shortsville man apparently ran out of fuel and the engine quit. Pilot Richard Schaefer glided towards an open field just south of County Road 41 near East Victor Road. The plane came down in a cornfield, but the lightweight Taylor suffered minimal damage and the 74-year-old pilot suffered even less.
An FAA official interviewed Schaefer at the scene and will conduct a followup investigation. Schaefer is making private arrangements to truck his plane back home.
