Rochester, N.Y. - We are learning more about the man Rochester police suspect killed one of their own.

Sources tell Newsradio WHAM 1180’s Bob Lonberry that the suspect was released on parole two weeks before he engaged in the shootout that killed the officer Wednesday night.

Sources say the suspect was pulled over for a traffic violation and that it is unlikely the officer knew the suspect was in violation of his parole before the traffic stop. When the suspect tried to run away, the officer pursued, and that is when the shooting started.

That officer was married, with three children -- including a newborn.
