Minister Who Led the 1960's Civil Rights Movement in Rochester has Died

There is no word yet on funeral arrangements for noted Rochester civil rights organizer Minister Franklin Florence.

He died this week at the age of 88.

Florence was senior pastor at the downtown Central United Church of Christ in Rochester.

According to his son, Minister Clifford Florence, he was the first president of FIGHT -- Freedom, Independence, God, Honor, Today -- after the 1964 Rochester riot.

Clifford Florence also tells 13 WHAM his father was probably one of the greatest organizers in the history of Rochester since Frederick Douglass.
